El Cajon, CA- Hope International pushed their win streak to five straight- the longest current men's streak in the GSAC- with a 75-67 win over San Diego Christian on Tuesday. The win moved the Royals currently into sole possession of third place in the GSAC standings. Free throw shooting down the stretch turned out to be the difference in the contest for HIU. Junior Matt Green topped the Royals with an even 20 points.
Fullerton, CA- The Golden State Athletic Conference announced today that Sophomore Garrett Neilan has earned the GSAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors- his second such honor of the season. Last week, Neilan averaged 16.5 points and seven rebounds while leading the Royals to two GSAC wins.
Fullerton, CA- With the game tied at 53-53 and seconds remaining, Junior Garrett Neilan drove hard to the basket and laid in the game winner as Hope International upset No. 9 Vanguard 55-53 on Saturday. Neilan finished with an HIU high of 19 points. Vanguard's Preston Wynne was the leading scorer in the game with 22 points.
Fullerton, CA- For the second Tuesday night in a row, Hope International saw their opponent's potential game winning high percentage shot just lip out as the Royals held off the Eagles 50-49. Senior Jeremy Kilgore was again impressive defensively along with scoring a team high 16 points. Sophomore Garrett Neilan was no slouch himself as he ended the night with 14 points and a game high nine rebounds including the game clinching defensive rebound with just seconds remaining.
Santa Barbara, CA- Hope International proved why they are the number one defensive team in the NAIA by holding the Warriors to just 16 points in the second half of a 59-50 win over Westmont on Saturday. Senior Jeremy Kilgore and Junior Austin Sanford topped HIU with 11 points each.
