FULLERTON, CA – The 2016 GSAC Men's Basketball Championship came to a close on Tuesday, Mar. 8 with the final contest featuring the #1 seed Biola Eagles and the host team, the #2 seed Hope International Royals. In a gritty defensive battle the Eagles walked off the floor with win and the hardware to show for it at the Darling Pavilion.
FULLERTON, CA – The seventh-ranked and second-seeded Hope International Royals punched their ticket to the GSAC Championship for the third straight season on Saturday with a win over the Vanguard Lions. The sixth-seeded Lions upset William Jessup to make an appearance in the Semifinals but were unable to push past the Royals.
The Golden State Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Tournament seeding took until the final week of the regular season to be determined. Biola defeated Hope International on the final night of the regular season to win the GSAC Men's Basketball Championship and the No. 1 seed in the tournament. Westmont earned the women's championship and is the top-seeded team in the women's bracket.
IRVINE, CA – The GSAC Men's Basketball All-Conference Team presented by Under Armour consists of 11 players and is led by GSAC Player of the Year, Dakari Archer from Biola. Garrett Neilan (SR/Downey, CA) from Hope International, is the Defensive Player of the Year. Dave Holmquist of Biola, who led the Eagles to the GSAC Championship with a record of 14-2, is the GSAC Coach of the Year.
LA MIRADA, CA- The #5 Royals' regular season ended on the road in Chase Gymnasium on Saturday, Feb. 27 as the Biola Eagles celebrated Senior Night. The Royals fell to the #8 Eagles in the NAIA Game of the Week and will have to settle for the second seed in the GSAC Tournament.
FULLERTON, CA- #5 Hope International hosted #15 Arizona Christian on Senior Night in their final home game of the regular season. Dominique Lanier (SR/Lakewood, CA) provided a career-best 27 points against the Firestorm and the Royals split the season series with a nail-biter finish and a last-second win.
FULLERTON, CA- Hope International hosted Vanguard University on Saturday in the early game as part of the Play 4 Kay event sponsored league-wide by the GSAC. The Royals were led by Liam Hunt (SO/San Anselmo, CA) and Tuff Barnes (SR/Scottsdale, AZ) who scored a combined 40 points in the win over the Lions.
