Head Coach - 2nd Season

In October 2012, Ryan Young was named the new Men's and Women's Tennis Head Coach at Hope International University. Young joins the Hope International coaching staff after spending the last eight years as a member of Troy High School Men's Tennis coaching staff.

Athletic Director John Turek stated, "HIU Athletics is very excited to announce the hiring of Ryan Young as our new Men's and Women's Tennis Coach. Ryan brings an outstanding coaching career to the Royals as well as a high level of spiritual maturity that reflects the mission of our university."

Coach Young stated, "I am excited about the opportunity to be the next Men's and Women's Tennis Coach at Hope International University. I look forward to building great relationships with the players and HIU staff. I want to push my teams to become better tennis players but more importantly better people."

Young has served as the Men's Tennis Coach at his alma mater Troy High School for the last five years. Under Young's guidance, the Warriors finished with a perfect 50-0 record in Freeway League play. They advanced to at least the second round of the CIF playoffs four of the five years. The three years prior, Coach Young served as the Assistant Coach for the THS team that won CIF titles in 2005 and 2006.

Three players moved on from the THS team in Young's five years to play NCAA Division I tennis at John Hopkins University, University of Virginia, and UC Irvine. While not playing tennis, two other former players have landed at prestigious NCAA Division I schools- one (a THS Valedictorian) headed off to Princeton University while another earned a spot in a combined Baylor/Rice University medical program.

As a player himself, he played for Mt. San Antonio College where he served as the team captain and earned First Team All-South Coast Conference honors. He advanced to the third round of the State Individual Tournament as a Sophomore. While playing at Troy, his fondest memory was winning the Freeway League title as a Senior which ended a 24 year drought without a league title.

In June 2012, Young joined the staff of Calvary Chapel East Anaheim as a Young Adult Ministry Intern. A few months after starting, Young lead a mission trip to Romania where they evangelized through sports ministry.

Along with taking over the tennis programs, Coach Young is set to enroll in a Master of Arts- Ministry program at Hope International University. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 2005 from California State Polytechnic University- Pomona.

Coach Young resides in Diamond Bar, CA.
