Indian Wells, CA- Sixth seeded Hope International was turned away by third seeded Concordia 5-0 in the first round of the GSAC Tournament on Tuesday.  Number three doubles was the closest match of the day of those matches that actually finished.

Playing doubles first, the Eagles controlled courts one and two in doubles winning both with a score 8-1.

Junior Thiago Brito and Freshman Michael Maiolo teamed up in number three doubles to pull off five game wins.  But CUI still won 8-5.

Needing only five points for the team win based on playing a tournament format, the 3-0 lead held by Concordia after doubles meant the Royals would have to be nearly perfect in singles play.

However, any thoughts of HIU mounting a comeback were squelched when the Eagles won 6-0 and 6-1 on the number five singles court and then 6-0 and 6-2 in singles actions on court two.

Brito and Senior John-Douglas Owens put together the best efforts in singles action.

On the first court, Douglas was turned away 6-4 in the first set.  The second set was just 2-1 (Owens down) when play was stopped due to Concordia securing their fifth team point.

Court four saw Brito lose the opening set 6-2.  And like court one, play was halted with CUI up 2-1 in the second set.

The Royals end the team portion of their season with the loss on Tuesday.  Several of them are scheduled to participate in the ITA Ojai tournament next week.
