La Mirada, CA- With the first eight matches resulting in a 4-4 tie, Tuesday's match between Hope International and Biola came down to the final match playing- number one singles- before the Eagles won 5-4.  The Royals won 2 of 3 in doubles action.

Playing on the tail end of the women's match, the men opened play with doubles.  The first doubles match complete went in the favor of Biola 8-3.  The final two doubles matches went HIU's way.  Seniors John-Douglas Owens and Enzo Correa won easily 8-4.  Sophomores Nick Arriola and Mauricio Grosso worked harder but still prevailed 9-7.

Biola pushed HIU to the brink when they won the first three singles matches to be finished with the closest match being 6-2 and 6-1.

But the HIU Brazilian connection responded winning the next two matches.  On the second court, Correa cruised 6-0 and 6-2.

Court four saw much more action as Junior Thiago Brito went head-to-head with Tayven Townsend.  Brito claimed the first set 7-6- winning in tie break fashion.  The second set was won by Townsend to create the need for a deciding third set.  Brito had enough tricks up his sleeve to pull out the 6-4 win.

Brito's win re-tied the team match at 4-4.

That set up Owens and BU's Lucas Lee to decide everything with their singles match on one.  Lucas opened by winning the first set 6-4 before Owens grabbed the second set with a 6-4 result of his own.  To matters even more interesting, the third set came down to a 5-5 tie.  The match turned in Biola's favor when Lucas broke the serve of Owens and then held his own serve for a 7-5 third set win and 5-4 overall team win.

On Thursday, the Royals will conclude their marathon tennis run of eight matches in 11 days when they host Whitworth College at 2:00 pm at Cal State Fullerton.
