Fullerton, CA- Hope International returned to action against an NAIA opponent as they hosted McPherson (KS) on Friday at Cal State Fullerton.  The Bulldogs beat the Royals 7-2.  Senior John-Douglas Owens turned in an impressive win at number one singles.

Starting with doubles, MPC took control of the team match by sweeping the tandem matches.  The three matches finished in reserve order of court number.

The closest doubles match of the day came on the number one court as Owens and fellow Senior Enzo Correa forced the Bulldogs to win an extra point to beat them as they fell 9-7.

McPherson won the first four singles matches to secure the team win.

The two points for the Royals came on court one and four.

In number four singles, Junior Thiago Brito dropped the first set 6-3 but rallied in a big way.  In the second set, he held off Sean De Young 6-4.  With the team match winner already determined, Brito and De Young headed to a super tie break third set.  In the sped up version of a set, Brito surged at the end to win 10-7 and the match 2-1.

The final match playing on the day featured Owens against J. Fajula Rodriguez.  The two traded ground strokes to a 6-6 tie in the first set.  Owens held off Fajula Rodriguez 7-5 in the tie break to move ahead 1-0.  Owens remained pumped from his tie break win as he dominated the second set 6-1.

The Royals will complete their tennis madness of five matches in six days when they head to Whittier on Saturday.  The teams will square off at 3:00 pm.
