Fullerton, CA- Senior Alexis Alonzo was named the GSAC Softball Pitcher of the Week for her efforts last week as announced by the Golden State Athletic Conference today. Alonzo earned two wins and a save in the four Hope International wins last week.
Last Monday, Alonzo allowed one unearned run with five strikeouts in seven innings pitched as she earned the win in the first game against Doane.
As solid as she was in game one, her appearance in game two was in a lot of ways was more impressive. She came on in relief with a runner on base in the fifth with the score 7-5 HIU and proceeded to strike out the side. She recorded another strikeout in both the sixth and seventh innings to hold off the Tigers and secure the save.
On Tuesday, she headed to the circle in the second game and threw a gem against Hamline (MN). Throwing all seven innings again she struck out four while giving up just two hits and no runs. The shutout was her third of the season while the complete game was her tenth on the year.
The sweep of Hamline gave the Royals a new wins plateau for a season since joining the GSAC in 1999-00. Of their 21 wins, Alonzo has earned the win in nine of them.
Nice job, Alexis!
