Fullerton, CA- Senior Lauren Salazar was named to the 2011-12 Women's Basketball All-GSAC Team as announced by the Golden State Athletic Conference yesterday. Salazar finished the year in the top ten in the GSAC in points and steals.
For someone who had originally decided she did not want to play basketball in college, the Royals found a diamond in the rough when she decided to lace up the shoes again. When she closed out her career last week, Salazar found herself in the elite copy of the 1,000 point and 500 rebound club.
Offensively, she concluded her career with 1,135 points in 99 games played. She established her career high of 30 points earlier this year against Point Loma Nazarene. She scored 21 points three different times this season including twice against GSAC foes Westmont and Fresno Pacific.
She concluded the year averaging 12.4 points per contest which ranked her ninth in the GSAC.
On the glass, when all the dust of the season settled, she was the leading rebounder on the team. She reached the career milestone of 500 rebounds in the third to final game of her career against Biola. She ended her career with 514 rebounds.
Salazar averaged 2.21 steals per game which placed her 7th in the GSAC. For good measure, her career total was 202 steals.
Against GSAC opponents this season, Salazar averaged 13.6 points and 5.5 rebounds.
The All-GSAC honor was the first of her career.
