SANTA CLARITA, CA – (RV) Hope International took on its third ranked opponent of the 2017 season in a road test at No. 24 The Master's on Saturday, Oct. 7. The Royals took control early in the match but lost the early lead in the second half before falling in overtime to TMU.

The Royals were aggressive and creative early in the match, and 10 minutes in that creativity turned into the third career goal for Alex Zuluaga. Pedro Mendoza set him up for the strike and HIU would take a 1-0 lead into the second half after neither side could net another in the first half.

However, a momentary lapse from the Royals' back line cost them the lead in the 55th minute. A goal from a freshman Mustang tied the match and the two sides would play out the remainder of regulation locked at 1-1.

That 1-1 draw held through the first overtime period. HIU managed to put its only shot of the first overtime on frame, but the Mustangs' keeper saved the shot and preserved the tie. Ryan Brown, for his part, made five saves in the second half and another in the first overtime to keep the clock rolling.

After stymying TMU's offense for 104 of the 105 previous minutes, the Royals looked poised to settle for a 1-1 draw, but TMU had one more run left. With just two minutes left the Mustangs charged up the field with a numbers advantage against the Royals' back line. Brown saved the initial shot but the ricochet spun onto the foot of another TMU freshman who buried a straight-on shot over a prone Brown for the golden goal in the 109th minute.

The Royals fall to 8-3-2 overall and are now 4-2 in GSAC with four conference tilts remaining during the regular season – HIU will now play the second half of its home-and-away slate with two tilts against No. 16 Vanguard and one each at Arizona Christian and San Diego Christian to end the regular season.
