(9)The Master's University

SANTA CLARITA, CA – Hope International traveled to face No. 9 The Master's on Saturday, Oct. 7, and fell to their highly-ranked hosts in regulation. The Royals were outmatched on both ends of the field and would suffer their second shutout loss of the season.

The last time the two sides met was on Nov. 4, 2016, during the 2016 GSAC Opening Round – HIU played the Mustangs to a double-overtime draw with two goals in regulation for a 1-1 final that required a shootout to decide who would move on to the next round.

Almost a year removed from that result, it only took four minutes for the Mustangs to net what proved to be the game-winning goal, and another ten minutes to tack on an insurance goal for a 2-0 lead. The Mustangs bumped their advantage up to a 3-0 lead in the 19th minute and would hold that advantage at the half after the opening period.

Jacqueline Talley saved two of the six shots she faced in the first half, but Casey Pulido was placed between the posts to start the second half for HIU. Pulido would end her stint as goaltender with three saves against shots in the second half.

TMU added another to its afternoon rout eight minutes into the second half and made the lead 4-0 at 53'. The Royals would continue to defend the net afterwards against continuous assault from TMU, and at 71' the Royals caved one final time for the fifth strike of the afternoon – TMU would end the match with a 5-0 win in the sixth GSAC match of 2017.

The Royals are now 3-2-1 in GSAC play and 6-5-2 overall after back-to-back losses on the road against a pair of NAIA Top 10 opponents, while No. 9 The Master's improves to 12-2 overall and 5-1 in GSAC play. HIU now has a week to ready themselves for No.7 Vanguard next Saturday at home.
