SAN CLEMENTE, CA - The men's soccer program of Hope International continued its annual tradition by traveling down the I-5 freeway to start its season with a service project at Victory House. Coach Joe Lurker and his team have made this a part of their annual preparation for their fall season in each of the past four seasons of competition.

With the seniors making their fourth straight trip, Coach Lurker and his squad had yet another chance to give back to the recovery center and its residents with manual labor and fellowship.

"Going to the Victory House during preseason has become quite the tradition," Coach Lurker said after returning to HIU's campus. "It's something that our returners look forward to the most during double days. It's always incredible to see how much work has been put in since the last time we were there."

The Royals have developed a steady system at VH to help support the men who live and work at the center typically stay for a year during their recovery process. The men's soccer program takes time to weed, build retaining walls, clean, and otherwise take care of other needs with a crew of 20-25 individuals from the soccer program.

"Our goal every year is to be a blessing to this awesome ministry but I always leave feeling like they were the blessing to us," Coach Lurker remarked after the 2017 trip. "We sweat together, share stories together, and eat together and we leave different. God continues to use this time to bring us closer to him and closer together as a team. It's also a great workout which is usually something we need at this point in the season. I am already planning for this experience again next year."

Be sure to catch the men out on the ptich as they labor there as well in preparation for their 2017 season!
