FULLERTON, CA – Hope International held its third annual Signing Day event on May 6, 2017 for its incoming class of athletes. The Royals have used this event to welcome new athletes into the university and introduce them to the Athletics department.

Coach Henry Valiente Jr. signed his first recruiting class at the event by adding a pair of standout freshman from local programs. Christopher Cons comes in from Cypress HS while Jeremiah Marrero joins from El Dorado HS.

Cons comes to HIU after starting every game as the varsity setter over the last three seasons for the Centurions. Cons helped his team to a 21-5 record over his final two season with a pair of league titles and a CIF Semifinals appearance while 37 assists per match over his career – Cons' career high is 46 assists against Tustin HS. A three-time team MVP, Cons was also named All-League twice, and made the All-CIF team his junior season in addition to being named League MVP

Marrero comes to HIU as an outside hitter and a defensive specialist after playing for Coach Valiente Jr. at El Dorado for three seasons. Marrero hit .300 in his career for the Hawks and also served up 70 aces on his way to an All-League honor his junior season.

Coach Valiente Jr. plans to continue filling out his 2018 roster in the coming months. HIU Athletics is proud to welcome these and all the other incoming athletes for the 2017-18 academic year – best of luck in your seasons and go Royals!
