CARSON, CA – Hope International traveled to compete in the Mariner Spring Invite hosted by Marymount University (CA) on Sunday and Monday, Mar. 26 & 27. Three teams competed in a two-round tournament at The Links at Victoria golf course on a par-72 course with a total yardage of 6804.

Justin Cosca (JR/Buena Park, CA) finished fourth overall in the field of 23 golfers to lead HIU – Cosca shot a 78 in the first trip around the links but was able to slash eight strokes off in his second trip, shooting 70 in his second trip and clinching the fourth place finish with a final card of 148 (+4). Cosca's 70 strokes in round two were one off the leader for the round as the low score of round two was 69.

Clarence DeVera (JR/Long Beach, CA) started in the driver's seat for HIU with a round of 74 but fell off somewhat in round two, picking up an extra three strokes in round two with a card of 77 to finish at 151 (+7) for the tournament in a tie for sixth.

Christian Skinner (SO/Long Beach, CA) shot rounds of 73 and 79 to finish in a tie for sixth with a total card of 152 just behind DeVera. TJ Kaczan (SO/Jersey City, NJ) struggled in his first trip through the course with a card of 83 in round one but also showed the most dramatic improvement of any golfer at the three-team tournament with a card of 73 in round two, finishing at 156 (+12) in 14th.

Chris Feltman (FR/Fountain Valley, CA) shot rounds of 75 and 82 for a finish of 157 in 15th (+13), Kyle Wilson (JR/Apple Valley, CA) turned in cards of 82 and 76 to finish 16th at 158 (+14), and Alec Carlson (FR/Riverside, CA) shot rounds of 79 and 81 to finish 17t at 160 (+16). Keith Flowers capped the day for HIU with a card of 170 (+26) after turning in rounds of 88 and 82.

The Royals will now have a month to prepare before they will be back on the course next at the GSAC Golf Championships at the Carlton Oaks Golf Club in Santee, CA.
