FULLERTON, CA – Hope International hosted Benedictine-Mesa (AZ) for Senior Night on Friday, Mar. 25 in the Darling Pavilion and were able to sweep the visiting Redhawks in three sets. After honoring their five 2017 seniors the Royals put together a very focused attack on the court to finish in three sets.

The Royals opened the first set on an absolute tear and would finish the set with an attack percentage of .560 and a sideout rate of 88% - both were their best marks of the night in a strong start. Zach Greene (SR/Lombard, IL) piled up kills in the first set and several Royals served up aces to win set one 25-17.

Set two started out favoring the Redhawks, but by the middle of the second stanza HIU had climbed back into the driver's seat and would lead the rest of the way. The Royals were able to limit Mesa to its worst numbers of the night – an attack rate of .130 and a sideout rate of 56% - and HIU capitalized on that defense to win set two, 25-18.

Now hunting a sweep, the Royals faced off against a determined Redhawks team unwilling to surrender in three sets. The Royals produced at their lowest rate of the night against firm competition from Mesa but were able to produce a late run that sealed the evening for the seniors in three with a 25-23 final. Greene produced kill after kill in the last stanza of the evening and finished as the match leader with 25.

Enrique Lopez (SR/Santa Ana, CA) dished out 40 dimes in the win and Greene produced a double-double with match highs in kills (25) and digs (10). Max Osmundson (SO/Las Vegas, NV) added seven kills in the win and Daniel Deloney (SR/Sacramento, CA) led HIU with three blocks and two aces in the match.

The Royals will finish their 2017 season tomorrow at 2:00 pm in the Darling Pavilion with their fourth match of the season against Mesa – live coverage will be available with links from our website, or you can come support the Royals in their final match of the season.
