ROCKLIN, CA – Hope International wrapped up its 2016-17 season on the road at William Jessup on Saturday, Feb. 25 with a 1:00 pm tilt against the Warriors. HIU was able to gain the lead for stretches of the game but couldn't hold on to their advantage and fell by eleven points on the road to close the year with a loss.

The Warriors conceded the first two points of the game to HIU after a pair of made foul shots by Olisa Horn (SR/Santa Ana, CA), but WJU would rally to reclaim the lead five minutes later in a low-scoring first period with a 4-3 advantage over HIU. Layups from Sydney Lopez (JR/Buena Park, CA) and Emily Terwilliger (SR/Susanville, CA) gave HIU a 10-8 lead but the Warriors closed the quarter with a 5-0 run to jump in front for good.

The Royals trimmed the lead down to two with 6:53 left before the half after a free throw from Terwilliger, but the Warriors pulled away again over the course of the quarter and would lead by seven at the break, 26-19.

The Royals played their best quarter of the game in the third period when they outscored their hosts 15-12 in the period to trim the lead by three. The Royals were only down by four, 38-34, heading into the final quarter of regulation, but the third quarter rally sapped their energy on the floor and allowed the home team to outscore HIU by seven in the quarter for a 62-51 final tally on the Warriors' Senior Day in front of their home fans.

Emily Terwilliger, Hannah Ascencio (SR/Northridge, CA), Olisa Horn, and Jazzmyn Oliver (SR/Rancho Cucamonga, CA) played their final game as a Royal and combined to score 27 of the Royals' points against WJU. Terwilliger led HIU with 11 points and nine rebounds, just shy of a double-double in her final game, and added two assists, two blocks, and a steal. Coulter Bowlen (JR/Port Jefferson Station, NY) added nine points, seven boards, and a team-high three assists for HIU and Oliver was the other leading Royal with nine points and three boards her last game.

The Royals finish the season 5-21 overall and 0-16 in GSAC – this is the first season that HIU has failed to win a conference game since the 2008-09 season under former head coach Dave Ploog. HIU bids farewell to their four seniors and has eight players with eligibility remaining that will return for next year's season in 2017-18.
