ATHERTON, CA – Hope International traveled north for its final road trip of the season to play Menlo and William Jessup over the weekend. The Royals opened the road trip at Menlo and led briefly before trailing the rest of the way and falling by 32 points on the road.

An early triple knocked down by Melody Gauthier (JR/Hacienda Heights, CA) put HIU in front 3-2 but the Oaks would counter with an 8-0 run to take a 10-3 lead and never looked back. HIU was outscored 24-17 in the first quarter and 23-11 in the second quarter to trail 47-28 at halftime after a slew of turnovers in the first half.

The Royals' halftime adjustments allowed them to play a tightly-contested third quarter with the Oaks. HIU matched their hosts shot for shot in the third quarter as each team scored 18 apiece in the period, but the Royals were unable to eat into the lead and would trail 65-46 heading into the fourth quarter in Atherton.

After a competitive third period Hope International ran out of gas in the fourth and watched as the Oaks doubled them up 25-12 in the final period. The Royals fell on the road in their 15th GSAC tilt of the season by a final of 90-58.

Coulter Bowlen (JR/Port Jefferson Station, NY) had a good game for HIU and led the team with 14 points, eight rebounds, two steals, a block, and an assist while shooting 60% from the field. Emily Terwilliger (SR/Susanville, CA) pulled down eight rebounds and Jazzmyn Oliver (SR/Rancho Cucamonga, CA) scored 10 for her team.

The Royals fall to 5-20 overall and 0-15 against GSAC team this season with a tilt at William Jessup remaining on the schedule on Saturday. Links for coverage of that game will be available on our website at hiuroyals.com.
