PHOENIX, AZ – Hope International traveled to face Arizona Christian in game two of the season series and fell on the road to the Firestorm in regulation. The Royals were able to lead for stretches while playing in hostile territory but could not pull out a win on the road.

The Firestorm were aggressive from the opening tip and almost doubled up HIU after one quarter, leading 18-10 at the start of the second period at home after starting the game on a 13-2 run. The Royals fought tooth and nail in the start of the second, however, and opened the second with a 10-2 run to tie the game at 20-20 with 5:24 left before the half.

HIU would go on to lead the Firestorm twice during the second quarter but at the break the home team had regained control after ending the period on a 5-0 run to go in front 33-28. The second quarter push was the Royals' best performance of the night – after briefly pulling back within one, 33-32, with 8:40 left in the third the Firestorm pulled away for good and would lead by as many as 16 during the second half.

The Royals killed their chances for a road win with sloppy ball handling, committing 25 turnovers against the Firestorm, and watched as the host team converted those into 32 points off HIU miscues. The Royals' final tally of 69-54 against the Firestorm was likely enough for a win barring the 25 turnovers on offense.

Emily Terwilliger (SR/Susanville, CA) put up a double-double in her last career trip to Fultz Gymnasium with 12 points, 10 boards, four assists, and two blocks for HIU. Jazzmyn Oliver (SR/Rancho Cucamonga, CA) also scored in double figures with 10 points and six boards.

HIU falls to 5-18 overall and stands at 0-15 in conference this season with three games left on the schedule – the Royals have now lost back-to-back games to ACU for the first time in program history. HIU returns home to host senior night on Saturday, Feb. 18 against Biola at 7:30 pm before travelling to finish the season at Menlo and William Jessup the following week.
