MESA, AZ – No. 6 Hope International traveled to Arizona for a back-to-back against Benedictine-Mesa (AZ). The Redhawks put up a good fight in front of their home crowd and defeated HIU in both matches, winning in four sets on day one and in five sets in day two.

HIU was outhit in sets one and two of the first match and fell by identical scores of 25-23 in sets one and two after hard-fought battles on the hardwood of Heap Gym. HIU was able to rebound in set three and outhit BMAZ .276 to .158 to win 25-20 and force set four, but the Royals ran out of steam in the fourth set. The Redhawks won the fourth set 25-17 in decisive fashion to end the match and hand the Royals their sixth loss of the season.

Zach Greene (SR/Lombard, IL) and Enrique Lopez (SR/Santa Ana, CA) were excellent for the Royals in the loss as each flirted with a triple-double in the match. Greene led his teammates in three different statistical categories as he tallied 15 kills while hitting .462 and added 11 digs and seven blocks in an all-around effort for his team. Lopez dished a team-high 38 assists and added nine digs and five blocks for his team in the loss.

The Royals returned to the gym the next day on Sunday, February 12, for the rematch at noon. The Royals pushed the Redhawks to five sets and even required extra rallies in the final set but again the home team prevailed. The Royals won the first set 25-22 and then lost set two by the same score, 25-22. A 25-18 win in set three gave HIU a 2-1 advantage in the set count but BMAZ bounced back with a 25-22 win in set four to force the fifth set. HIU came close to scoring a win in set five but the Redhawks pulled it out in front of their fans with a 16-14 final to complete the weekend sweep.

Lopez dished 51 assists in the match and put up seven digs to help his team. Four Royals tallied double-digit kills and were led by Tyler Greene (FR/Lombard, IL) with a match-high 19 kills and an attack percentage of .469. Charles Belvin (JR/Long Beach, CA) was right behind T. Greene with 15 kills and Z. Greene tallied 12 for his teammates. Chase Larson (FR/Henderson, NV) was the last Royal in double figures with 10 kills and a .471 attack percentage.
