COSTA MESA, CA – Hope International traveled to Vanguard University to take on the No. 5 Lions on Saturday, February 11 at 5:30 pm in The Pit. The Royals struggled to limit the Lions' offense and fell 82-40 in regulation on the road.

HIU led briefly after scoring first but trailed from the second minute on – HIU was outscored 30-10 in the opening quarter after allowing the top-ranked Lions get multiple open looks and second chances from offensive rebounds. However, the Royals followed their first quarter performance with their best 10 minutes of the day in the second.

The Royals outscored their hosts 13-11 in the second quarter and played good defense to hold the Lions to their lowest single-quarter scoring total of the game. The Royals' best performance of the night still had them trailing at the break and at the half HIU was behind 41-23.

The Royals were outscored 21-6 in the third quarter and 20-11 in the fourth for the final tally of 82-40 after 10 minutes of play. The Lions were able to hold the Royals to just eight points in the paint while scoring 28 points off HIU turnovers and another 28 points in the paint.

Sydney Lopez led HIU with eight points and pulled in four rebounds as well for HIU – Emily Terwilliger scored seven points while pulling in eight rebounds and dishing a team-high two assists and a block.

Hope International falls to 5-17 overall in the 2016-17 season and is 0-12 in the GSAC this season with four games remaining on the schedule. HIU travels to Arizona Christian on Tuesday, Feb. 14 before hosting Biola for Senior Night. HIU ends the season on the road at Menlo and William Jessup.
