FULLERTON, CA – Hope International hosted William Jessup in the last game of a three-week home stretch that featured six games on the hardwood of the Darling Pavilion. The Royals jumped on top early but were unable to hang on down the stretch and ultimately fell by 12 at home against the Warriors.

The Warriors came into the night on a seven-game losing skid and it looked like that streak would continue early in the night – HIU outscored the Warriors 19-12 in the first quarter and looked poised to grab its second win in three games after a great opening period.

Jessup had other ideas, however, and the Royals watched as WJU outscored them 14-3 in the second quarter – at the half the Royals' seven-point lead had shifted to a four-point deficit and the second half proved to be no better. The Royals were able to shoot 60% from beyond the arc, one of their best performances in a single half all season, but it would not be enough to stem the tide.

Emily Terwilliger (SR/Susanville, CA) improved dramatically offensively in the second half and helped her team stay in the game in the third but the Royals could never regain the lead – HIU tied it for the final time at 30-30 with just under six minutes to play in the quarter and the Warriors would still hold a four-point lead heading to the fourth.

Jessup outscored HIU 15-7 in the final quarter and stretched what would have been a six-point loss into a 12-point loss for HIU by hitting their free throws down the stretch. Terwilliger finished with a team-high 20 points to tie her career best and pulled down 10 rebounds – no other HIU player posted double-digits in any statistical category.

HIU falls to 5-14 overall and is still searching for its first conference win after nine contests. The Royals travel to San Diego Christian this weekend for a rematch against the Hawks before returning home to host No. 21 The Master's next Thursday, Feb. 9.
