SANTA CLARITA, CA – The Royals traveled to #17 The Master's on Saturday, January 7 for their third GSAC game of the season and are still searching for their first conference win after 29-point loss on the road. The Mustangs held the Royals' top two scorers to a combined 12 points and ran away with the victory for their first GSAC win of the year.

The Royals missed all of their three-point tries in the first half and only took four free throws in the first 20 minutes as the Mustangs amassed a 17-point lead by halftime. TMU doubled the Royals' output in the second quarter, outscoring HIU 16-8, and nearly double up in the first quarter as well, outscoring HIU 19-10 to lead 18-35 at the break.

The Royals punched back in the third quarter and were able to match the Mustangs point for point with 13 in the period, but the Mustangs delivered a knockout blow in the final period with 27 points in the fourth to win 47-76. The Mustangs scored 30 of their points off of HIU turnovers and got another 21 from their 19 offensive rebounds.

Sydney Lopez (JR/Buena Park, CA) finished with a team-high 12 points, one tick below her career best, and shot 71% from the field despite being plagued by foul trouble. Emily Terwilliger (SR/Susanville, CA) led the team in rebounds (8), blocks (4), and steals (1) but was held under 10 points for the fourth time this season. Jazzmyn Oliver (SR/Rancho Cucamonga, CA)'s streak of 10+ points in a game was snapped at eight after scoring seven on 3-10 shooting from the floor.

Without the production of Terwilliger and Oliver, HIU's two top scorers, the Royals' offense struggled to find answers for a tough Mustangs squad. Coulter Bowlen (JR/Port Jefferson Station, NY) flirted with a double-double (nine points, eight boards) but otherwise the Royals' production suffered as a team.

HIU falls to 4-8 overall and will have to look for its first conference win at (RV) Biola next Tuesday, January 10 – the Royals will return home on Thursday to host Arizona Christian to kick off a six-game home stand that ends Feb. 2 with a tilt against William Jessup.
