INDUSTRY HILLS, CA – The Hope International University Royals hosted the 2016 GSAC Tournament at the Industry Hills Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday, Apr. 25 & 26. The Royals were led at the Tournament as they have for the majority of the 2015-16 season by Clarence DeVera.

The Master's College finished first as a team at the Tournament and also had the best individual finisher in Blake McPherson.

The Royals placed fifth as a team and combined to shoot 999 through three rounds. HIU did their best work in the final round of the Tournament with a combined score of 327. DeVera was the leader for HIU with a total of 239 at 23 over par for the tournament in a tie for 16th.

Justin Cosca ended his season with a three-round showing of 251 at 35 over par. Cosca was one of two Royals to shoot his best in the final round of the tournament with an 80.

Christian Skinner finished in third on the Royals' squad with a total of 256 at 40 over par. Grant von Kanel finished the season with a card of 259 at 43 over par. von Kanel did his best work on the first day of the tournament with a round of 84.

Garrett Groom came in fourth on the Royals' team and ended his career at HIU with a total card of 258 at 42 over par. Groom was the second Royal to end the Tournament on a high note with his best round on the last day – Groom shot an 82 in the third round. "Garrett had his final college tournament and birdied his last hole - it was fun to walk up the 18th fairway for that last time," Coach Eric Thorson said after the last putt of the day. The Royals say goodbye to Groom after two seasons of play for HIU as the first senior for the Royals' men's golf program.

"We didn't play as well as we had hoped - we put a lot of work into this conference championship at one of our home courses. Clarence had a good second and third round. As a whole we competed the enitre time and the guys never gave up, they played till the last hole. I think we have a good foundation and we anticipate a good recruiting class for next year - HIU Golf is well on the way to being a quality program.
