PRIMM VALLEY, NV – The Royals travelled to Nevada for the Battle at Primm hosted by the Grand View University (IA) Vikings on Mar. 21 & 22. The Royals entered five into the tournament against a tough field comprised largely of Top 25 teams and finished with a team card of 976.

Clarence DeVera (SO/Long Beach, CA) finished at the front of the Royals' five competitors with a card of 12 over par and a 228 finish in 36 holes. DeVera sandwiched the best Royals' best individual round score of 71 between rounds of 80 and 77 for his final card.

Justin Cosca (SO/Buena Park, CA) was next to the clubhouse with a card of 235 for a 19-over finish. Cosca shot the second-best individual round of the tournament HIU with a card of 74 in his last trip around the links.

Garrett Groom (SR/Villa Park, CA) shot 255 overall and finished third for the Royals. Christian Skinner (FR/Long Beach, CA) came in just behind Groom with a total card of 259, and Jeffery Holsman was a step behind Skinner with a card of 262.

The Royals also sent two players out to the Cal Baptist Men's Invitational to compete as individuals. Grant von Kanel (SO/Redondo Beach, CA) shot a card of 250 through 36 holes for HIU at the Eagle Glen Golf Club and Keith Flowers finished with a card of 275.

von Kanel shot the best individual round for HIU at Eagle Glen in his first trip around the links with an even card of 80, eight over par for the course.

"I was really proud of the way our guys competed [in the Battle at Primm & Eagle Glen]," coach Eric Thorson said of the finish. "The team finish at Primm looks worse than it should – those were some great teams [in the tournament field] and I expect the eventual NAIA champion to come from out of those teams."

The Royals will compete next at Industry Hills on Apr. 25 & 26 as they host the GSAC Championships.
